We have some very exciting news for all you foodies out there. Our vision at Botree is (and always will be) to bring the world’s finest seasoning to every foodie’s table. We have just taken a giant leap further in the fulfilment of our mission by expanding our seasoning range to include 30 single-origin spices from around the world.

Our new spices range makes it possible for you to explore worldly flavours and heavenly aromas from the comfort of your own home. Our range includes an exotic array of artisanal spices including Flowering Hyssop Thyme from Turkey, Wild Mountain Cumin Seeds from Afghanistan and Desert Hibiscus Flower from Egypt. With travel restrictions in place, our new range of spices means you can still take your palate on a tour of gourmet seasoning from cuisines worldwide.

On our mission to find the world’s finest spices, two questions were crucial:
Where the spices come from and how they are produced. For each spice, we have selected the finest regions in the world for its production - focusing on optimum climate, terroir and local growing expertise. The new range combines flavour excellence with sustainability and provenance.
Botree founder, Peter Schaebbicke, said: “At Botree we began with producing the ‘king of spices’, pepper, in the most ethical and sustainable way possible before considering expansion. We have our own farm in Kampot pepper and know exactly what it means to produce spices that are the best of their kind, organic and fair to both the environment and the people that grow them. So when we decided to expand our range we could not do anything different. All the new spices are deliciously unique, best in class, with pedigree and ethically farmed.”
What is Single Origin?
Similar to coffee, spices which are branded as ‘single origin’ can only be grown within a single known geographic origin, and in Botree’s case in single farms. This ensures the shortest supply chain possible and therefore the most advantageous conditions for farmers as well as the tightest control over quality. Depending on the type and whether it’s whole or ground, spices can lose their potency if mishandled, so choosing ‘single source’ means the valuable volatile oils do not evaporate as they often do when spices change hands in the international trade. Botree’s direct-to-consumer approach means British foodies now have access to spices that are grown ethically from heirloom crops by smallholder farmers across the world.
Peter Schaebbicke said: “As foodies, we are used to single origin coffee and we understand the implications for taste and sustainability. It’s now time that we extend this same standard to spices. When you think that we use spices to season literally everything we eat, it makes even more sense that we take a stand and switch to single origin.”
